Coffee Brecka at Sprouts.

Two hours, three roasts and a table inside Sprouts in Coconut Grove. Here is how our first Coffee Brecka went.

On Saturday, October 10, we set up a table inside Sprouts in Coconut Grove, poured The Ultimate Brew for anyone who walked up, and I got to stand there and watch people take that first sip.

We called it Coffee Brecka. It was two hours, 11 AM to 1 PM, next to The Ultimate Human endcap, where the coffee sits on the top shelf. Nothing fancy: three roasts, a brewer, a stack of cups, and a team in black shirts that said Take a Coffee Brecka.

The table

Medium, Dark and Espresso, poured fresh.

I wanted people to taste all three before they picked a bag, so we brewed Medium Roast, Dark Roast and Espresso right there and poured them one cup at a time. Same single-origin Arabica from Tolima, Colombia, three different roasts. Most people had a favorite by the second cup.

What people said

First sip, honest reactions.

I could have told you what I think of this coffee. It was better to ask the people holding the cups. We filmed a few of them as they tried it, and these are their words, not ours.

“This is the best coffee I’ve actually ever had in my life.”

“It’s very smooth, which I like a lot… I absolutely love the flavoring.”

“Just knowing it’s clean, it makes me feel so much better about having my coffee.”

That last one is why we test every lot. Every bag has a QR code on its side that opens the lab report for that lot, and a few people scanned it right there at the table. You can watch all five clips, with sound, in Overheard at Sprouts on the homepage.
